Parents Connect in Affinity Groups

Parent Affinity Groups: Spotlight on East House
Westminster’s parent affinity groups allow groups of parents with a common connection to come together to share experiences and support one another. For Westminster’s East Asian American and Pacific Islander parents, East House is that resource across all three divisions.
Even during the pandemic, East House has offered a robust menu of opportunities, including regular Zoom meetings and a Lunar New Year gathering in February. Following the Atlanta spa shootings in March, the group came together for support and reflection and also participated in the Stop Asian Hate rally and march at Liberty Plaza in downtown Atlanta. The parents of East House have also worked to provide AAPI cultural education to Lower School students via videos and bulletin boards and are partnering with the School to develop DEI initiatives which include AAPI.
In addition to East House, Westminster offers a number of other parent affinity groups including HOLA (Hispanic or Latino Affinity Group), SAPNA (South Asian Parent Networking Association, The Village (African Diaspora Affinity Group), Moms in Prayer/Prayer Cats, Shalom Cats, and the LGBTQ+ Parent Dialogue Group. Contact information for parent affinity groups is regularly included in the Weekly Parent Update.

“Having a space to regularly connect with other parents has been especially valuable during the pandemic. It has given us the opportunity to understand what other families are going through and provide one another with support around how to talk to our kids about important issues."
